Motivated by the raft of anti-gun legislation passed by the legislature and singed by Gov. Jerry Brown, Second Amendment groups are launching recalls against several Democratic state legislators – including freshman Assemblyman Sharon Quirk-Silva.

Here’s the e-mail she sent out today to her supporters:

Yesterday afternoon, I found out that I — along with four of my colleagues — will be the target of a recall campaign led by gun-rights extremists who want to replace me with one of their Tea Party allies.

Let me set the record straight right now.

I have always been a firm believer in protecting the second-amendment rights of responsible gun-owners, but as a mother and a teacher, I will never waver in my commitment to keeping our children and our communities safe. Period.

What is truly shocking, is that this political stunt has only targeted Latino legislators — a testament to how truly out-of-touch these individuals are, and raises the question of their real motives and intentions.

I plan on sending the message right here and now that I will not succumb to petty partisan games. And I certainly won’t cave to ideological extremists seeking some empty political advantage.

I am going to fight this bogus recall, but I cannot fight alone.

Can I count on you to stand with me?

Assemblymember, District 65

Let’s see: Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva deploys the “I support the Second Amendment. but...” dodge;  then shamelessly throws down the race card by accusing these “narrow minded fanatics” of being racists. Funny how its only politicos who obsesses about race who run around accusing everyone else of being a racist. Politician, heal thyself.

That could make for a good mail piece: “Do you support gun rights? if so, then Sharon Quirk-Silva thinks you’re a racist!”

It’ll be interesting to see if there are resources behind this recall.
