The OC Register reports that KFI-AM morning talk show host Bill Handel will headline the kick-off fundraiser for former Councilwoman Lorri Galloway’s mayoral campaign:
Bill Handel, a popular drive-time talk-show host on KFI-AM, has a best friend whose girlfriend grew up with mayoral candidate Lorri Galloway’s daughter.
Because of that connection, Handel will help boost Galloway’s campaign by appearing at a campaign fundraiser next week.
“I get involved in politics on a personal basis,” Handel said.
Galloway is a former Anaheim councilwoman who served for eight years. In the race for Anaheim mayor, she is expected to face incumbent Mayor Tom Tait and Councilwoman Lucille Kring and perhaps others. The campaign filing period has not opened for the November election.
Handel’s morning show consistently gets ratings that put it in the top three morning shows in Southern California.
Though Handel lives in Los Angeles, he said he feels more connected to Orange County: 90 percent of his public appearances are here, he said. Handel previously endorsed county Supervisor Todd Spitzer, who Handel knew from when Spitzer worked on the morning show more than 20 years ago.
Handel described his political leanings as moderate. Galloway is a Democrat who described her campaign as being pro-business yet progressive.
Galloway’s pro-business stance also prompted him to get involved in the campaign. He is not getting paid for his appearance at Galloway’s rally, he said.
