County of Orange CEO Mike Giancola sent out this message to county employees today:
April 8, 2015
Dear County of Orange Employees,
I have informed the Board of Supervisors, as well as agency and department heads, of my retirement plans. My last day will be September 4, 2015.
Here is a portion of the memo I provided to them:
I have had an opportunity to share with each of you my desire to retire a bit earlier than I had originally envisioned. I wanted to memorialize the decision and to thank you all for your support. Being CEO is a challenge and a privilege, and I have been immensely fortunate to be able to work with each of you.
I look forward to the months ahead as we get through the budget process and establish strong financial and organizational footing for the coming year. I had intended to stay longer but my recent health issues caused me to re-evaluate the timing and my priorities. My hope is that announcing my decision now will allow for a more measured transition. I have been incredibly honored to be a member of the County family for 37 years and will be leaving with tremendous pride and gratitude.
In the meantime, I’m optimistic about the next several months and look forward to continuing the hard work and collaboration.
Let me reiterate what a pleasure it has been to work among you and to lead our County workforce for the past two years. As always, thank you for all you do to support the County of Orange and the communities we serve.
Best Regards,
Mike Giancola
County Executive Officer
