Thank you for the notice, Matt. The event was very well attended, and Council members Vanderbilt and Brandman were able to join roughly 100-125 guests, which included at least one Gold Star family. Of note, Council member Vanderbilt is a Veteran of the Navy, and currently serves as a Reserve officer in the Army, having enlisted after his Naval duty was completed. Mayor Tait offered a very moving message, which he closed by reading a letter from a Civil War soldier to his wife, sent by post one week before he was killed in battle. Bobby MacDonald was an excellent Master of Ceremonies, and kept the pace moving smoothly. As always, the VFW’s hard work organizing this annual ceremony resulted in a time of remembrance and respect, appreciated by all who attended. Boy Scout troop 733 worked to get the flags and crosses on the graves of our veterans, and their labors are also appreciated. In all, this was a very fitting tribute to just over one million Americans who have given their lives for our freedoms, and I know my fellow Trustees on the District Board greatly appreciate how much work goes into every one of these events, which are also held at the Santa Ana Cemetery and El Toro Memorial Park. Again, thank you very much for sharing notice of the event with your readers.
