Diane Quezada Singer has resigned from the Orange Unified School District Board of Education, following the sale of her Anaheim Hills and re-location to Mabury Ranch in east Orange. Singer represented OUSD Trustee Area 1, which encompasses Anaheim Hills; OUSD Board members are elected at-large but must live in the trustee area which they represent. Mabury Ranch is in Area 5, thus requiring her to resign.
Singer, a Democrat, was first elected to the OUSD Board in 2006, defeating GOP activist Chris Nguyen. She was unopposed for re-election in 2014. Singer was also a member of the Anaheim Public Utilities Board, nominated in January 2013 to fill the vacancy created by the election of Jordan Brandman to the city council, and briefly
Following is the text of her letter of resignation:
July 31, 2015
Dear Orange Unified School District Children & Community:
It is a great honor to serve the children and families of the Orange Unified School District (OUSD).
That’s why my decision today to resign my OUSD Trustee Area One seat is a difficult one – but the right
one for my family and me.
After much discussion and forethought with David, my husband of 28 years, we decided it would be best
for us to downsize our longtime Anaheim Hills family home. Its sale was final today.
To this end, David and I have purchased a smaller home in the City of Orange that is more suitable for
our family needs. Unfortunately, our new home is outside OUSD Trustee Area One, making me ineligible
to serve the trustee area voters elected me to represent in 2010 and 2014.
Therefore, as required by law, I must resign my seat effective immediately.
It has been my privilege to serve with the best teaching and classified staff in Orange County. Our
children are very lucky to be in such safe, capable hands.
I will miss working with OUSD’s dedicated leadership team and my OUEA and CSEA colleagues.
I also want to thank the PTA and special education communities for their support over the last five years.
And I pledge my ongoing support to CARE’s new leaders in their relentless pursuit of much-needed new
funding for all OUSD schools.
Sincerely,
Diane Singer
The OUSD Board of Trustees will fill the vacancy by appointment; the application period ends at 4:00 p.m. on August 28.
