“I’m going national, man,” Garden Grove’s left-wing Mayor Bao Nguyen told the president of the city’s police union on June 18, according to a recorded conversation (reported this morning in the OC Register).
Apparently, so.
Despite a Bao Nguyen candidacy in the 46th Congressional District being reported in the media (including here) as merely potential, it turns out Nguyen has already formally organized a congressional campaign committee – completing the paperwork on July 21 and filing it with the FEC on July 29.

With none other than the BLOVIATOR, Greg Diamond’s daughter as the official money counter/treasurer.
Can’t wait to see Birkenstock Boy (actually he wears Famous Footwear) knockoff’s) publish his disclaimer after each blog post promoting the 15 vote winner/six month mayor.
One has to wonder how many of those fifteen votes would have gone away if he was honest about his sexuality before hand? I guess we’ll never know.
Diamond writes favorable things about his step-daughter’s clients frequently without a disclaimer; just see his posts on TheBrean blog about from Brea council member Murdock…all favorable, and not a disclaimer in sight. If you do see a disclaimer on those old stories, its because he went in and added it.
That would be the same Mary Joana Barcelona who failed to report an in-kind contribution as Brea Councilman Brett Murdock’s treasurer: http://fppc.ca.gov/enf_letter/01-12-15/ENF012.PDF
Wow — do you have any idea how statistically improbable it is for three comments (over at least the last ten or so hours as I write this at 7:30 p.m.) to INDEPENDENTLY appear within the same twelve minute span? I’m so stunned by the massive coincidence, which looks NOTHING like a coordinated campaign to discredit Bao by, uh, — I guess by weakly discrediting his campaign Treasurer, due to her relation to me — that I just have no words to offer in response!
Well, maybe a few. First, there IS a “Jaime Valdez” in Anaheim, but I have no reason to think that this comment was written by rather than by someone borrowing his identity. I’m certainly not going to contact the “real” one to find out.
My sandals are “Dunham” brand, bought (judiciously while on sale) from the best shoe store in Orange County (at least for those of us with sturdy feet.) Birkenstocks are overpriced, much like the proposed Streetcar.
I don’t know what would have happened had Bao come out before the election. He didn’t have the homophobic vote to begin with due to his stance on VROC and the Tet Parade. He could probably have raised a hell of a lot more money if he had, so it’s probably a wash.
As for Dan C’s insinuating that there is some quid pro quo between people hiring my daughter’s firm and my treatment of them in blog posts: that’s a little too subtle to be actionable, sir. You sound irresolute. Do you want to allege that this actually and factually happens? (It doesn’t, but I doubt that would stop you.)
Here’s what IS true: she sometimes (not always) runs a prospective client’s name at me to see if I have some sort of fit in reaction to it, and if I do then so far as I can tell she flips a coin as to whether to take it. (I would not support some of her clients, at least in primaries. No one seems to care. Including the candidates.)
I had disclosed that my daughter was Brett Murdock’s Treasurer in OJB; I thought that I had done it in The Brean as well. That has nothing to do with my supporting or writing about him. I supported him because he seemed honest and competent; when I found out that he had lost because he had faced won the City’s biggest donor for a huge upcoming giveaway of public funds (well, huge by Brea standards, not Anaheim’s) I became more enthusiastic about him, despite that he is a Business Democrat. (Honest Business Democrats don’t really bother me, unless their voting records are lousy — such as Lou Correa’s profitable mind-meld with the Prison Guards union.)
As for the definitely anonymous commenter above — I think that it was that she was late in filing by one day (during her finals week at CSUF, as I recall) because of some uncertainty about the timing of the official date of the in-kind contribution. Not a big deal. Now that she has graduated from college (with honors, if I may add), she doesn’t have conflicts with finals to worry about anymore. Her clients seem happy. I’m proud of her work ethic and good results.
Ah, your super power of detecting honesty….despite not honestly disclosing on TheBrean your step-daughter was his treasurer. Some watchdog you are.
What does it matter if she is his Treasurer? It’s not a policy position; it’s a compliance position.
She doesn’t make much money from it, what money she makes is fairly earned, none of that money is mine, I had never spoken to him during the last cycle when he signed up and worked with her firm, I never promised to treat him any differently because of it, and I never DID treat him any differently because of it. I admire the political courage that he showed — and I still do. If he dropped her firm, (which would be OK with me, except that he’d probably either pay more or get worse service), I would still write the exact same things about him.
So anyway, since you’ve gotten bitten by the ethics bug, I think that you were about to say something about Tom Daly’s $25,000 gift of public funds to Jordan Brandman after he left his do-nothing position in the Clerk’s office, weren’t you? I mean, since we’re airing grievances….
Thank God we have some who isn’t in the pockets of big business running for this seat. The world doesn’t need Jordan Brandman moving up the political ladder.
Yep. Because what Congress needs is another socialist!
