Two more candidates pulled papers last week – and the same day, May 20 – to run for Anaheim City Council from West Anaheim’s District 1.

Freddy Fitzgerald Carvajal
A Democratic activist and insurance broker who lives near Western High School, one of Carvajals recent foray’s into local politics was participating last fall in the OC Young Democrats-Connor Traut action to “take back Anaheim from the Republican Party” by taking over the West Anaheim Neighborhood Council. Fitzgerald Carvajal was part of the Connor Traut faction that showed up to vote:

Fitzgerald Carvajal also organized a precinct walk for Democrat Sharon Quirk-Silva, the former Assemblymember now running to take out GOP Assemblywoman Young Kim in AD6:

And participated in the recent May Day march in Anaheim organized by OCCORD, UNITE-HERE and other left-wing interests:

Fitzgerald Carvajal also has a definite talent for creating Facebook affirmations, as you can see here.

Denise Barnes
denise barnes head shotFrom what I’ve been able to gather, Barnes is a member of the West Anaheim Neighborhood Development Council (WAND) who lives by Maxwell Park but has not really been active in Anaheim civic affairs or politics. I don’t know her political party affiliation as yet, but she and her husband appear to be sailing enthusiasts.

Fitzgerald Carvajal and Barnes join the three other candidates in the District 1 race: Steve Chavez Lodge and Orlando Perez (both Republicans) and Democrat Leonard Lahtinen. I reached out to Lahtinen this morning because it appeared from the City Clerk website that he had not yet pulled papers to run; he said he did so yesterday. He also said veteran political consultant George Urch is running his campaign.
