Attorney and OC Fair Board Director Ashleigh Aitken reported raising $193,269 from July through December 2017. This brings her fundraising haul to $379,701.10 since her entered the mayoral campaign lists in June of last year.

Her campaign reported total expenditures of $21,786, leaving a cash-on-hand balance of $355,413.25.

As with her last campaign report, the bulk of her donations came from attorneys. Aitken’s is of counsel with Aitken, Aitken and Cohn, one of the state’s leading litigation firms. Firm founder and pater familias Wylie Aitken is a Democratic fundraising powerhouse and prominent philanthropist with a wide and deep network of relationships.

The campaign report also illustrated Aitken’s strong union support. The Anaheim Municipal Employees Association – an affiliate of the Orange County Employees Association (OCEA) – contributed the maximum $2,000. The militant hotel workers union UNITE-HERE Local 11 gave her $1,000. The Communications Workers of America donated $500. Nick Berardino, former general manager of the OCEA, Aitken’s OC Fair Board colleague and a campaign adviser, has donated $500. OCEA Communications Director Gaston Castellanos donated $100.

A portion of the expenditures went to fees for campaign consultant Carina Franck-Pantone, who is also a long-time retainer consultant for the OCEA. Frank-Pantone is also a director of Orange County Communities Organized for Responsible Development (OCCORD), left-wing, non-profit political action arm of UNITE-HERE Local 11.

Aitken has been a very active candidate and her fundraising to date has been very impressive and ensures she will be able to run a robust campaign – which is critical since two of her opponents are former Anaheim City Council members who have been on the ballot multiple times while Aitken is a relative unknown to Anaheim voters. It also remains to be seen if her fundraising will extend beyond the bar.
