District 2 Update From Councilman Jordan Brandman

From District 2 Councilman Jordan Brandman:

Investing in our children
In April, we invested in our youth by giving them endless amounts of opportunities. I was proud to be involved in the Snap the Gap launch and the Dreamers & Doers Luminary Scholarship Awards.

The Snap the Gap program launched at West Anaheim’s very own Walt Disney School. LittleBits, Disney, and UC Davis announced that they’ve joined forces to create the non-profit program to give girls a jumpstart into the important world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Snap the Gap will begin as a one-year pilot program focused on 15,000 10-year-old girls in California.

In addition to this program, The Disneyland Resort awarded five Anaheim high school students with a $1,000 grant for their high school, a $3,000 grant for a nonprofit of their choice, and an $11,000 college scholarship. Named Disneyland Resort Dreamers & Doers Luminaries for leading amazing projects or programs, these students have impacted their schools and communities in meaningful ways. Thank you to our community partners for investing in our youth!

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta
I had a fantastic weekend celebrating at the City of Anaheim’s annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at La Palma Park. Everyone enjoyed the carnival rides, plentiful snacks, and game booths. Thank you to all the residents, volunteers, and staff who made this such a great citywide event for the whole community!

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Last month, we launched electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in our very own West Anaheim! In an effort to make our city more environmentally friendly, we’ve added EVgo electric vehicle charging stations at the Brookhurst Community Center. These stations can charge electric vehicles (EV) in 30 minutes and allow residents to charge quickly and conveniently. With this investment, it’ll be easier for West Anaheim residents who drive electric vehicles to quickly charge as they go about their days.

West Anaheim BBQ
Thank you to everyone who attended and volunteered at the West Anaheim Neighborhood Development Council (WAND) 23rd Annual Western BBQ. I’m proud to be surrounded by such a great community and local leaders who commit their time to make West Anaheim a better place.
