Anaheim First is holding its District 2 town hall meeting the evening of Wednesday, September 4 at the Brookhurst Community Center from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This is the second in a series of six town halls – one in each council district – being held as part of the Anaheim Community Assessment being conducted by Anaheim First in partnership with the City of Anaheim.
The Anaheim Community Assessment will provide the city with neighborhood-based input for prioritizing the $250 million in neighborhood investment spending over the next decade that was pledged by Mayor Harry Sidhu in his State of the City speech.
Anaheim First is a resident-driven non-profit focused on improving quality of life in Anaheim neighborhood via resident input through the Anaheim Community Assessment and ongoing discussion and organizing among residents. It is resident-controlled neighborhood leadership council with support from Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, Visit Anaheim, and the Anaheim Community Foundation.
More than 100 people attended the first town hall, held last week in District 1. They are collaborative in nature and open to all input from all residents. The town halls begin with an opne house from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a large group gathering from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. during which the town hall facilitators go over the goals and ground rules. Afterward, residents break up into small groups and during the next hour discuss their specific ideas for city investments to improve their neighborhood quality of life, and actually pinpoint those areas on an over-sized map. This is followed by each small group reporting their findings to the assembled residents, and question-and-answer.
All input will go into the formulation of the Anaheim Community Assessment recommendations.
The Brookhurst Community Center is located at 2271 W. Crescent Avenue in West Anaheim.
