Florida-based developer and investor Encore Capital Management has purchased the Anaheim RV Park with the intention of building a rental project consisting of 159 townhome-type units.
Construction could begin as soon as late 2020, and the project will likely consist of three-bedroom units targeted at families.
The Mangels family has owned and operated the RV park since the 1950s, and sold the 6-acre site for a reported $26 million. Vernon Mangels told the Orange County Business Journal he decided to sell the land because he was moving out of California.
While not zoned for residential development, the site has a residential opportunity overlay. This is expected to expedite the entitlement process.
The OCBJ reports Encore Capital Management plans to hold the developed property for at least a decade. Since Anaheim RV Park site is just outside of the Anaheim Resort zone, the developer will not have to go to a city-wide vote in order to change the zoning.
