Do Governor Newsom’s constantly changing lockdown rules and policies comport with our constitutional rights? Is there a better way to protect those vulnerable to COVID while lifting damaging restrictions on economic activity and the education of our youth?

These and other pressing policy questions will be discussed by scientific and legal experts at a January 8-10 public policy conference organized by Re-Open Cal Now. Panelists will engage in wide ranging discussions about the effectiveness – or lack thereof – in California public policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The three-day conference will take place in Rancho Murieta, and is presented by Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner, Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Hewitt, and Sacramento County Supervisor Sue Frost.  Click here to register for in-person attendance, and here to participate via livestream.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya

The noon panel on January 9 examines whether wholesale lockdowns have been effective in containing the coronavirus, and is led by Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, M.D., a professor of medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She is also a lead author of the Great Barrington Declaration, a statement by infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists expressing concerns about the “damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies” and advocating an approach “Focused Protection”: focusing resources and energy on protecting those segments of the population who are most vulnerable to the disease, while allowing the less vulnerable to resume normal life while observing standard health hygiene protocols.

Other panels will discuss whether or not Governor Newsom’s emergency powers are consistent with our constitutional order; the lockdown’s impact on mental and social health; and the devastating economic impact of Newsom lockdown orders.

“COVID is real” reads the Re-Open Cal Now website:

“But they aren’t telling you the whole story. Selecting only data and science that supports their political goals, politicians and the media are demonstrating that they don’t trust you to make the right decisions.

They’re treating us all as children.

We’re dedicated to providing you all of the information – the full science and the complete data because we know that Americans can make better decisions about their families than politicians can. Especially when they are fully informed.”
